Heart and Mind: Preventing Alzheimer's Through a Heart Healthy Lifestyle

The known risk factors for heart disease are now shown to be connected to Alzheimer's disease and the other dementias. High blood pressure control is particularly important. This is especially true for  Geriatric and senior adults.

Through exercise, a healthy-heart diet, and medication, A.G.E. Matters recommends that all of our adult and geriatric clients achieve optimal blood pressure control, with a goal of <130/80. Achieving this goal delays and prevents the onset of dementia.

Achieving this goal of blood pressure requires dedication: both on your part and on the part of your doctor. Lifestyle changes are the best route, but very commonly medications, often 2 or 3 medications, will be required. Speak with your health practitioner.
